Why every blogger needs an email list

 

I you run a blog or business and haven't yet created an email newsletter list, you need to start collecting emails for your mailing list.  In a perfect world you'd begin building your list on the same day that you created your blog as opposed to concentrating solely on social media as your principle mode of connection and growth.

To begin, you'll need access to some mailing list software.  Most mailing list software companies (like Mailchimp) offer free mailouts for a certain number of subscribers. I use Mailchimp to manage my email subscribers, their service is free for up to 2000 subscribers and allows you to send out up to 12,000 emails per month. They provide a wide range of templates and embedded forms are provided for your blog. They are also compatible with all blogging platforms. Their interface is easy to use, and they allow you to schedule mailouts, customise welcome emails and import lists from other platforms.

When you've signed up for an account, you can customise a form to put on your site and begin gathering emails immediately. Place forms in a variety of places all throughout your site… good spots are your sidebar, below posts and above the header.

What kinds of messages would it be advisable for you to send?

The secret to an effective mailing list is to not overpower your subscribers with content. If you're constantly harassing your readers and that's it, that is a fast approach to lose subscribers. You should endeavour to give a decent blend of content — fortnightly or weekly newsletters featuring recent posts they may have missed, free resources, or if you run a business special subscriber offers. Your newsletter, just like your blog content, should be of interest to your subscribers and not simply utilised as an approach to garner site hits.
